Bo Diddley I m A Man

And he was a man! I had an up close encounter with Mr. Diddley many years ago when he played a sparsely-attended outdoor show in Sherman Park in Madison, Wisconsin.

The stage was ground level, and I was right up in the front row. Hell, it wasn't even a row, it was just a few of us standing up close listening. Anyway, a very cute girl, about 15, was standing right next to me. Bo was singing this song, no more than 10 feet away from us, and he was working his Bo Magic on this girl...and it was working. He was the man....I'm sure you're entertaining them wherever you are today, Bo.

"She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye" by Mickey Newbury

Do you know Mickey Newbury? He's one of the greats....but many have not heard of him.

Kris Kristofferson said of him: “God, I learned more about songwriting from Mickey than I did any other single human being. To me he was a songbird. He comes out with amazing words and music... I’m sure that I never would have written Bobby McGee, Sunday Morning Coming Down... if I had never known Mickey. He was my hero and still is.”

ONE OF MY FAVORITE CENTRAL MEDELLIN PLACES

These photos are of one of my favorite places in central Medellin: Plazuela San Ignacio....As you can see, it's very active and is an excellent place for people-watching. I go here frequently to have a coffee and sit on the bench and read a book, to watch life. A wonderful side benefit is that I often meet some wonderful people.

Yesterday, for example, a young guy came along and sat down on my bench. He was having an animated conversation with another guy when suddenly he broke out into an a capella song that sounded like some sort of Colombian ranchera music. It was quite nice.

I also saw a group of about 8 little girls, ranging in age from about 8-12 years of age. They were having a grand time as they walked along with a nun who appeared to be no more than 20 years old herself. It was delightful to see how much they all loved each other. Each of the little girls was vying for the nun's attention as they touched her and competed to see who would hold her hands or lock their arms with her.
